In The Garden: The Monochrome Shows Its Stuff

by Jon Katz

Mostly, I take floral pictures in color, but once in a while, I like to see what monochrome can do. I was impressed.

Black and white images of things we are used to seeing in color challenge the imagination and force us to think. The mix of razor-sharp and fuzzy works well for me.

The Monochrome likes the Iris; it’s a camera for sharp contrast. I like to imagine color as well as see it.

This basket hangs on the porch; the colors are blue.

This basket hangs just outside Maria’s studio. I love the shape against the sky.

The Nasturtiums are proud and beautiful and fighting flowers. They keep coming back.

So I’ll be honest, I have a pretty high fever lie, and I need to go and lie down. Later.
