The Memorial Nastirtiums Rebound

by Jon Katz

It was a sweet way to start the weekend. I found that my memorial garden – a raised bed in honor of the murdered school children in America – had rebounded and is coming back to life.

This weekend is complete. I took Maria out for breakfast. Then we stopped at several thrift shops for the fabric of a specific color for her art.

We stopped at the Amish Farm to pick up some strawberries for friends. Tomorrow we’re seeing a play in Bennington, the first play we’ve been able to see in two years.

I’m planting some primrose seeds in my garden bed, and I’ve ordered another small bed from the Amish just for these new seeds.

Thanks for all the guidance on floral names. Maria pointed out that I can use a feature on the Iphone to photograph a flower and have it identified on the spot. This will help with my Dyslexia.

This afternoon reading. I find that I am weak afternoon and need to rest. It is all getting better, though.

I’m glad that I was able to save the Nasturtium garden. We don’t seem willing to protect our children; we can at least remember those we have lost.

  1. Hi Jon,
l feel that the American society is becoming (or has become?) very vituperative in writing and attitude…so sorry to read about the farm girl controversy that really isn’t one…thank you for your patience and good will. LOVE love love your blog and your pictures, your studies in colour and black/white…gratefully, Sabina, Saltspring Island, British Columbia

  2. You probably know this but just in case you do not: the nasturtium flowers and leaves can be eaten (always double check your variety though). They are delicious in salads and taste like radish…
