Off To Bishop Maginn. Talking To A Dedicated Teacher, Planting Some Vegetables

by Jon Katz

We are to Schenectady today. I’m interviewing and meeting with Trish White, the head of the English Department at Bishop Gibbons High School; Maria is helping Sue Silverstein plant some vegetables to bring to food parties next year.

I might be teaching a creative writing class at the school; Maria is teaching a quilt-making class. The new art room looks fantastic. Sue Gilligan will make good use of it.

I’ve only been to Schenectady once or twice; I’ll be going regularly now. Bishop Gibbons is about 20 minutes longer a drive than Bishop Maginn was, but we have found a tremendous Korean and Indian restaurant to stop for lunch.

I’m eager to get to know the teachers and the students and see Sue so happy with her eight art rooms in the basement. Thanks again for supporting the wish list; I admit I was sweating it, but then Sue says I always sweat it.

I’m looking forward to meeting some Afghan and Ukrainian refugees and writing about them.

I’m tired. This kind of heat wears me out. And I’m covered with bug bites from tending the garden.

Severe storms in the forecast again; I’m not bringing Zinnia; it’s too hot. I took some monochrome pictures this morning of the flowers, but I haven’t had a chance to look at them yet. More later.
