Powerless For Hours. A Storm With Attitude. My Garden Took A Hit. I Almost Melted.

by Jon Katz

We went to Bishop Gibbons this morning and saw Sue, and I met with Trish Price, an inspiring and devoted teacher. I’ll write about her shortly.

We talked about our making an Amazon Wist List get a few books for the school library. I love the idea; we’re talking about it. Sue was happy to get all of her vegetable plants, she hauled them to her house so she could keep them watered regularly in this heat.

She thanked the Army Of Good once more for the art Wish List, she can’t wait to get the supplies on Monday.

She will start a blog, and we will teach a blogging class together at the school in Autumn. She says if she’s going to teach it, she has to live it. Wow.

I love that idea.

We got home and drove into the tail end of a wicked storm that blew over or snapped a bunch of my flowers, and the power went out. I cut some of them to give them away. A lot survived.

The sky was Amazon an enraged storm cloud advancing over a Cumulus cloud, a ton of wind and rain.

The purple gladiolas snapped right off; they are going to the Amish. Barbara and the girls and Barbara love flowers.

We’re heading into the triple-digit heat wave today and all through this weekend and it is getting to me. I just have to stay out of the sun – doctor’s emphatic orders. I just to joke about it, but I get it now.

The power was out for about five hours, and  I was jello by the time it came on, sinking into a kind of soggy stupor.

I’ve retreated into my study, which has a window air conditioner, er and the dogs and I are holed up cooling off. Maria went for a walk in the woods but was routed by flies and bugs. She’s in front of a fan blogging. We brought home some food from an Indian restaurant we found near Schenectady.

Once my body returns to an average temperature, I’ll venture out. I am eager to write about my meeting with Trish, an inspiring teacher. Got to mop things up when the sun backs off.
