Photo Journal, Thursday, February 2, 2023, Took A Drive To Get A Look. Pictures Of Cold

by Jon Katz

We had to take Maria’s car to the shop this morning; it’s making strange noises. Afterward, she agreed to join me on a quick drive-a-round to see if I could capture a sense of the cold wave we are experiencing today and tomorrow night (wind chill could be – 50). The extreme cold is a part of living her, and it can be wonderful.

It’s also tricky to capture me. I’m going to try.

The sun is shy during these cold waves; it just peeks through the clouds. But the cold can be lovely. The Winter Pasture is beautiful in its very own way.

The sun poked a big hole in the clouds but couldn’t entirely break through. I thought these clouds were gorgeous. The severe cold will be Friday night into Tuesday. But up here, you can feel it and smell it coming.

  1. Beautiful photos! Wishing you both well in the coming frigid air. -20 is predicted for overnight Friday into Saturday even here in Connecticut. Ugh, but we’re fortunate that it will be short lived unlike other portions of the country that are having horrible weather woes.

  2. I lived in Montreal for many years so I am familiar with Arctic cold spells. Your photos made me shiver. I now live on the far west coast of Canada where it rarely stays below freezing. I knew I was a West Coaster when those temperatures felt really cold and I had to put on my hat, gloves and heavy coat. I especially love the top photo .
