From The Cambridge Pantry, A Call For Kid’s Food: Shampoo and Body Wash And The Ever Popular SpaghettiO’s

by Jon Katz

The more I learn about the hunger and stress of the pantry world, the more I feel strongly about getting food to the children of these families who can no longer afford to feed themselves.

Our mission is to get them healthy food, which they are used to and which is especially satisfying.

It is not only good for them, it gives their parents great pride and comfort to give them what they want and are used to. It also h happens that most of these foods are inexpensive and come in packs and packages.

Today, Cambridge Pantry Director Sarah Harrington, who has become skilled at knowing the need and fighting for it, has asked me to suggest two things to the Army Of Good to help these children and their families: a straightforward healthy dinner and one product related to hygiene.

Her knowledge of available and needed foods is awesome; she carries most of it in her head and frequently checks online to see what is available, what isn’t, and what is inexpensive and healthy. She can’t always guarantee the food she wants, but she always does her best to get it.

I am proud and privileged to be able to help. Thanks for supporting this mission. You are all cherished volunteers in the best possible way.

First is SpaghettiO’s Canned Pasta with Meatballs, 15.6 oz Can (Pack Of 12, $11.44.

The Second is Suave Kids 3-in-1 Tear Free, Body Wash, Shampoo and Conditioners, Dermatologist Tested, Watermelon Wonder, 18 Oz, Pack of 6.

You can choose these other items from the Cambridge Pantry Amazon Wish List here. The list, which is updated daily, includes all items requested by the pantry’s customers. Thank you, everyone involved is grateful to you.

  1. You have odd ideas about nutrition if you consider spaghetti-o’s healthy. Ask your doctor if you yourself should be having them for dinner. It does the pantry guests no good at all to encourage them to feed garbage to their children.

    1. Emmet, I don’t choose the items. I raise money for what they ask for and need.

The pantry is busy, and the people who go there don’t get to choose the items they want; supermarkets and corporations don’t send them food you might approve of. They have no money to buy them. I raise money to get the people who go there what they ask for, not what I or anyone else thinks is healthy.

Healthy and organic foods are expensive, something you seem not to know. People who go to food pantries can’t afford them. They don’t get to pick. If you want to buy healthy foods, please feel free to go ahead rather than insult people with no options for feeding their families.

I am glad you have the money to buy what you choose and sorry you have no sense of reality for hungry people.
I don’t encourage them to do anything but eat what they choose and what we can send them. The least healthy food is no food, not spaghetti.

The Pantry address is Cambridge Food Pantry, 59 S. Park Street, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. They will be happy to share any “healthy” food. Calling what poor people have to eat and feed their children “garbage” is cruel and offensive. Do you think they’ll go and write checks for organic food? Put your money where your mouth is and send them better food. And don’t send me any more arrogant and elitist messages; thanks. I don’t care for people like you on my website.

  2. Right on John. Absolutely true. Perfect line, “the least healthy food is no food, not spaghetti “.
