8 March

Flower Art, Sunday March 8, 2026. My Assistant And I Are Working Together In The Sun For The First Time In Months.

by Jon Katz

Happy day, Zip and I were working together out in the Sun today for the first time in a long time, during this cold and stormy winter. I felt like I’d been released from a kind of prison.

It was a bright and happy afternoon spoiled only by my sadness over the war we are fighting in the Middle East, and the destruction and death it has wrought. For me, it is not a political issue. There is no blue war or red war.

Humans have been slaughtering each other since creation. There has never been a good one.

This drive to kill is a tragic, even heartbreaking reality of the human being. Dwight Eisenhower: “Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed.” My soul bleeds for everyone who dies from it, one side or the other, for every child who does and every man or woman. The flowers cry over it.
