It’s perhaps our favorite chore – to collect the wool from our sheep after Noble Fiber Works in Hillsdale, N.Y., prepares their wool. Maria loves everything about sheep – caring for them, cleaning them, feeding them, and then figuring out how to sell their wool and for how much.

Lewis Cleale, a Broadway Star for more than 30 years, started his Fiber Works five years ago, and we were lucky enough to get a spot in his processing mill. He’s wonderful to work with and talk to, and Maria loves every bit of having sheep and seeing their wool go out across the country.

She also loves the feedback she gets from people who buy it, some of whom buy it every year.

We love this ritual; we always stop and eat and talk about the wool. I’ve never seen Maria more excited about the Skeins than she was today. It’s one of the things that makes this farm special to us. Getting to know Lewis is a treasure.

Maria was thrilled with the yarn, soon to be sold in skeins for $30. Before it goes up for sale on her Etsy page in a few days (maybe tomorrow, knowing her), she’s going to go over it and figure out how to sell it. Lewis said Issachar wool was one of his favorites.

Lewis showed around the gorgeous barn he is building to give his mill more space and storage. It’s great to know and work with someone who loves Broadway and performing, but also loves his work with sheep. We are bringing him the next load of wool in June. It takes about six months; he has many customers.
