Today started awfully and ended well, as days tend to do. I misunderstood a test result and thought I was about to be hospitalized with kidney failure. I read it wrong. I was certain there would be another mishap with my insurance provider, and I’d be without medical care again. I was wrong; it’s all fixed up. I stayed two nights through the storm that just hit half the country. We lost power for 16 hours, and I had no internet and couldn’t write (I managed to get the flower photos in just after the power came back on). There was no damage or flooding.
We dragged the generator out, kept it running through that weather, and never needed to use it, so we put it away. We rolled it out yesterday, and it kept the house and the refrigerator warm. It’s back out again. Winter is just not ready to let go. Over the last week, people were so distracted that no one seemed to notice that Maria was offering her beautiful yarn for sale. We wouldn’t understand what was happening, but that all seemed to change after the weekend; we aren’t sure why. She is selling a lot of her yarn, and we value the work we do and the things we stand for on the farm. So here is more good news: the Army of Good has never once wavered; the shelves at the Cambridge Food Pantry are filling (I went by the Pantry today to check); and good and healthy stuff is pouring in every day. I met some of the people seeking food help today, and they are grateful to the AOG. Maria and I love our life, each other, and our farm even more. We belong together. I am happy not to have kidney disease, and Maria is busy getting her dry balls ready for sale, as well as the remaining skeins. I’m hoping for at least one day of peace; my nerves were wobbly and tired. Tomorrow, I get my feet checked in the morning (routine), and next week, I get my hearing aid pieces adjusted, hopefully for the last time.
