At times this year I  found myself wondering if there was a God where was he? President Trump has answered the question. He woke God up.
I’m not a professional, but if I understand the implications of this illness, then surely my ex-colleagues in the media and every person elected to Congress understand it as well.
Shame on them for not exposing this understanding. Shame on me, and on millions of others, for not seeing it earlier.

Pope Leo dared to criticize killing people as an alternative to something better. President Trump told the usual pack of journalist syncophants that Pope Leo just wasn’t his kind of Pope.
This is one of the few truths he has spoken lately.
I feel empathy for this President; there is no sane reason for drawing anyone’s God into the global and political quagmire he is trying to get out of, let alone someone as worshipped as a Pope.
I guess since he is his own God now, he needs not worry.

If Mr. Trump has a genius for coming back, he has an even bigger one for blowing himself up. I choose sadness, not hate. He’s plummeting.
Yesterday, he also lost a global leader and inspiration of the MAGA movement in Hungary, Viktor Orbán, a friend of Vladimir Putin.
Was it really, I wonder, a good night to assault the Pastor of the Catholic Church?
I am not a Christian worshipper, but I am also deeply inspired by the work of Christ and by the courage and honesty of the new Pope.
He reminds me of Americans before Mr. Trump was elected President. He does not fear any politician or the blasphemer Mr. Trump has become while hiding behind the Christian Evangelical Movement.
A British friend texted me to say people there will never count on Americans again to elect a President they can trust. It hurt to hear that.
Stunned that you feel empathy for him. I cannot understand why. He was a horrible person long before cognitive changes and dementia took hold. Personally, I have ZERO empathy for him. You know who I do have empathy for? Every marginalized person in this country that has been victimized by his policies, every woman that has been discounted, not believed or denied a health related need abortion because of him, every person that has been thrown out of the country without due process, I could go on and on. That’s who I have empathy for. But never, ever, for him.
Thanks Dana, if I don’t wish to be hated, I don’t wish to be hateful. I believe this man is not well, and hating him will not do anybody much good. He needs some kind of care, the same sympathy we offer animals. For me, empathy is not approval or surrender. It’s just about being human for me. Everyone has to make their own choice. I don’t see sick people as horrible, they often do horrible things. We don’t choose in my mind who I get to empathize with. I don’t believe this man is in good mind, since he isn’t making any good decisions. I don’t really know why but if one reads about mental health,the answers are not hard to find. Hating is just pointness to me, it’s the problem not the solution. They do it to us, we do it to them, nobody breaks the wall..
Raised in a white evangelical setting (which I left early on in adulthood), we were warned about the Antichrist…an odd fixation, actually. And then when someone embodying and amplifying the Antichrist’s character came along, they voted for him; in the case of my family, three times. They may pick out a bible verse or two, but when I tell them that the correct way to read the gospels is one at a time, from beginning to end (the longest is a mere 30 some pages long), they balk…because the actual story of Jesus is “anti” most of what they believe. One of the challenges for me…heart and arm and brain…is to stay grounded in love, peace, goodness in the face of those whose lives declare their distain for those behaviors of love, peace, goodness.

I would feel more empathy, if he weren’t in such a position of power ( over an entire nation, no less) . We wake almost every morning to another appalling communication of his…. If we cave and look at the news. It is Sad and concerning that so many still blindly support him, that he has appointees who are yes men/women who are charged with jobs over their heads and largely unprepared for the work they are now doing) , that he has a spiritual leader (Paula White Cain, a televangelist now on a WH spiritual committee) that compares him to Christ, and most of all, that our Congressional leaders cant seem to stop this. The collective wearing down is exhausting.
