Happy Update: The post about the Singer machines went up shortly after lunch. When I checked a few minutes ago, all three machines had been purchased and are on their way. People are good, and good people are never happier than when they help others. Thank you. Sue was thrilled. All three machines will be delivered to Bishop Gibbons on this coming Wednesday.

Here’s a link to the (three) Singer Sewing machines we (the Army of Good) want to get for Sue Silverstein and her 80 art students at Bishop Gibbons Catholic School in Schenectady, New York. Her students have challenging lives, especially recently, and have been lifted and excited by the chance to be artists, an idea many schools have abandoned.

Readers of my blog know Sue. I’ve been working with her since I had hair, and she has a weekly column on my blog, which many of you have contributed to. Sue hates to ask for anything, but this is something her students desperately need.

Once three are bought, the machines will no longer be available for purchase.

Here is the link to the machines. The Singer machine we want is the Singer M2100 Sewing machine, known for its compactness and versatility. (See below) Each machine costs $140. Amazon will automatically ship them to Sue at the school. The Singers can be purchased individually; if someone is so inclined, they can buy more than one. She says she doesn’t need more than three at the moment.

The Army of Good (and Maria, who donated some of the original, now battered machines) has been working with Sue for years, and those of you who know her know she is as close to a human saint as there is. She is also a great friend and brilliant artist and art teacher who has lured scores of young people away from social media and into making some of the most original art I have seen. This has done wonders for their confidence and creativity.

She relies on outside sources to send materials for artwork and has an urgent need for working, simple, and inexpensive sewing machines so her students can showcase their individual artistry. Her class is full, and many students come to work after school. If there was ever a worthy cause in chaotic and tense America, it is Sue and her students. Bishop Gibbons is set as the default address. The kids will be very happy, and some could use a boost.
