Friends: What we are witnessing on the news is a fellow human being falling apart in anger and rage. That is a sad thing to see. And it can be frightening. It already is.
Rather than joining the hatred and rage, I stop to consider that anger can burn and destroy not only the people who feel it but also the people targeted by it. I don’t want to go there. But everyone has to think for themselves.
Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh was considered one of the world’s most knowledgeable students of anger. He died two years ago. If you succumb to the temptation of anger, he warned, you will suffer, and those all around you will suffer. He suggests breathing in and breathing out, being still for a while. And remaining focused on the moment.
In Washington, we are seeing the awful damage that danger can do to a human being and to the world around them. First, I’d suggest we take time to hold ourselves together in prayer, meditation, or thought. We do our loved ones or our country no favor by joining mobs and spreading heat. Do some good, help a friend, visit a sick neighbor, volunteer at a Church or Food Pantry. Doing good is my breathing at the moment. It has worked for me. This is a time, I suspect, to stay, think, to give thought, not emotion.

Camera news. Leica is showing me a longer camera while it takes two months to get mine fixed. Leicas are precious; nobody wants to lose theirs. I’ll get the loaner camera in two or three days and will return it once mine is repaired and ready to come home. In the photo above, I got a new summer bathrobe; the snow, wind, and cold wrecked my other one. I rush out whenever I see the sun coming up, and I am inside. The best shots don’t stay still for long.
Kim is getting older, confused, and limping. We think she has more time to live, but we are anxious to keep her from suffering, if that’s where she goes.
I sometimes wonder if Zip and St. Joe talk to one another. Zip starts many mornings with him.
Going out to take a morning Meditation Walk. Zinnia and Fate love to come.
Walking into the woods each morning with two dogs. They vanish out of sight. Maria loves her forest.

Beautiful, thought provoking photos today. Thank you.
