Last week, I asked Sue Silverstein, an art teacher at Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady, if there was anything the Army of Good and I could do to help the young artists in her classes find their creativity (we all have it).

She has been incredibly successful, and people all over the United States send her materials and donations for her already legendary art teaching. She asked for two of the simpler Singer Sewing machines (they cost $140 each), and I suggested three. Refusing to be left out, two people have already added two to the ones we sold on the Amazon Wish List immediately.

There are lots of other things she needs (see below) if you want to help.

Sue has given the lie to the claim that many schools make about art classes not being important. See Sue and her students, and you will know how dumb that is.

Sue is one of my best friends and one of the most deserving people I’ve yet met. Each week, she writes a column here on the blog. Sue says five machines are wonderful and enough. She is always in need of art supplies. And thanks.

The machines arrived yesterday, and kids tore right into them, many sewing presents for Mother’s Day. Sue needs a lot of things to keep her art teaching going in such a great way that many of her students turn off TikTok rather than miss a chance to make something in Sue’s class.

As I mentioned, she needs a lot of things, mostly discarded things and art supplies that she and her students turn into art. You can read about other things she needs in her  column.
