I got the idea of the Peaceable Kingdoms from a series of paintings by the American Quaker artist and Preacher Edward Hicks, painted between 1820 and 1849. The biblical prophecy inspires the title and idea in Isaiah 11:6-9, which imagines a state of perfect harmony in which predators and prey live together in peace. Except for Zip, rats, and mice, the farm has become close.

I think of the Peaceable Kingdom when I see our animals out together, taking in the sun, living in perfect harmony, and inspiring me to imagine the same with the people I know and see. It’s something to dream about. I hope and pray it’s more than a dream. The name makes me think of the farm.

P.S. When I discovered there were successful and feared Jewish Pirates in the Caribbean, I got jealous. I would have loved to be one. It wasn’t a peaceable idea, but an exciting one anyway. Jewish Pirates were known for treating their captives well. I have a tattoo from the grave stone of one on my right arm.

My Bell’s Palsy has allowed me to think about today, which was just such a day. My doctor said I needed one to protect my drooping right eye.

Speaking of dreams, I told Maria I have a vision of people coming to see her studio after she and I are long gone, and eager to see the workshop of such a gifted artist and peaceable human being. The hanging “Yes/ No” dress was a warning to men to keep away. I think it was the chocolate, cheese, and wine I left in her workplace that turned the tide for me.
