Sarah warned me this morning that more and more people are coming into the Pantry seeking food assistance. The numbers are rising with every opening.

Our help is needed more than ever.

In addition, she said, “all of our prices here are now so high for everything.” She said food, gas, utilities, taxes, and just about every operating cost are steadily going up and sraining the Pantry’s resources.

“I just spent $90,” she said,” to fill our tank with gas.”  Fuel in Cambridge is now at $4.59, one-third higher than a month ago. That’s expected to get higher.

As inflation and oil prices rise and working-class jobs decline, this is hurting the Pantry. So far, the Army of Good is holding the Fort, but they can no longer buy the healthiest and most requested foods. We get the healthy stuff and some personal items  – women’s care, dental creams – and keep the families eating well.

One of the volunteers told me the Army of Good had come just in the nick of time: “I just don’t know where we would be without you, good people.”

The Amazon prices are higher, but many of their food items are remaining almost stagnant. Your continued support has never been more valued or needed.

Due to cuts in grants, donations, and government support, the Pantry can’t buy many of the things its customers want and need, especially healthy cereal, meals, and healthy canned vegetables.
