The Pantry is in some trouble today; everything on the Wish List is either out or just about out. The three items below are the most urgent for Sarah, but I included the others on the list with links in case anyone wishes to browse and possibly help. Thanks a million. It’s like Russian Roulette at times. Sarah never knows how many people will show up for help – it varies wildly – or how much food is coming from the Food Bank. Every day is a guess. Traffic was very high this week as inflation rises. The Pantry can’t afford to buy a lot of stock. It’s hit or miss. Hopefully, we can help.

There has been only one serious national survey of food pantries and how they are faring in America’s food crisis after billions of dollars in food aid have been cut. The survey, by the New York Times, found that America’s estimated 60,000 food pantries and meal programs are “quietly dying” by drastically reducing their hours, shrinking their food portions, or turning people away due to exhausted resources.
Inflation and high food-at-home prices are triggering a massive influx of fully employed workers and individuals who are using food banks for the first time because their paychecks can’t go far enough.

I was sad to read that, but happy and proud to say the Cambridge Food Pantry is not quietly dying, reducing its hours, shrinking its food portions, or turning people away. They have a supportive community, wonderful volunteers, some generous local donors, a creative and competent leader, and, just in time, the Army of Good.
The Pantry is struggling; they have lost grants and corporate support.
But they are holding firm, and I am grateful to be a part of that and thankful to the Army of Good for supporting the Pantry so faithfully.
