Canned vegetables are a central goal of the Cambridge Pantry. They don’t need cooking or cutting, they offer critically needed vitamins for children cooped up in apartments or scrambling to find a home. “Please push for the green beans,” Sarah asked this morning. “We are almost out.” Yesterday, Sarah told me about a family who received a notice to vacate their apartment the next day and came to the Pantry for help. They couldn’t find a place to live, and they couldn’t reach social services, and, says Sarah, “it was down to the wire.”
The Pantry is helping them with food and to find another place to stay. Local social services are overwhelmed. Sarah knows who to call. The Pantry always tries to help.
