A flower lover from Illinois sent me this message. “Dear Jon, please don’t be annoyed with me, but I’m writing to ask you not to take many abstract photos. I have eye problems, and the abstract photos make me dizzy. I enjoy your regular flower pictures more. Would you do that for me?”- Emily D.
The note seemed so real and honest that I thought of her as being older and sweet. I asked her how old she was. “I’m 35, she said. I thanked her for writing; it did suggest some character.
This would have annoyed me just a year or so ago.
But I explained to Emily that I spent much of my life being told what to write and how to write it.
I don’t have to do that anymore. I thought I had matured and grown easier. As politely as possible, I said no. I’m enjoying the freedom and good luck with your eyes.
Social media is a remarkable social experience. It ate me up for a while, and now makes me smile. I was not annoyed by the message; it was honest and trusting. That’s aging for you.

Wow! How I admire that response. I’m still stunned that anyone would expect you to modify your approach to photography for their individual wants or “ needs”. I’m a few years behind you age and maturity wise. I can only hope that I grow into the evolved human you have become. Kudos to you!
