The Best Kind Of Good: The Annual Amazon Wish List For Sue And Her Art Class.

by Jon Katz

There is no happier project for me than our annual Art Class Amazon Wish List for Sue Silverstein, an educational Saint who has found a way to get scores of children off of their cell phones and into the world of creativity, a gift that has benefited countless young people.

Most of you are familiar with Sue; I’ve been writing about her here and supporting Wish Lists for some time. She is the best of the best. This Wish List is meant to give her the supplies she needs to let her students’ creativity loose and get off to a great start this school year.

The list is not extravagant, but few teachers have the funds to buy it.

As far as I can tell, it is the most successful and creative art program I know of or have seen anywhere in the country. Your support has made that possible.

This year, a difficult year for teachers everywhere, the list has 21 items; each one is a modest but critical tool for her to bring into the classroom when school starts again. As of today, all of the items on Amazon will be automatically diverted to the Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady, New York.

You can find the Wish List here.

Sue is a wonderful artist and a brilliant teacher. This is money so well spent, a reminder that love and caring are so much more powerful than hatred and cruelty. Sue loves every one of her students and helps guide them into and through our sometimes difficult world.

She is completely devoted to every one in her classes, and hears from almost all of them throughout their lives.

I don’t really need to praise the gift that Sue Silverstein is to our world; I see her as my sister from another mother, one of my closest friends, and I am proud to know her and prouder yet to support her.

I know you will help – so many of you already are. Thanks, I am grateful for this privilege. I’m happy to be the first buyer on her list. And yes, they make wonderful, award-winning art in her class.

Thanks for supporting this remarkable opportunity. You can find the Wish List here.

  1. I just clicked on the list and was so happy to find ‘there are no items in this cart’. As a retired teacher, I remember well how we were expected to do more with less every year. Age is a good thing sometime as it allowed me to retire…but, especially at this time of year, I think fondly of those who are still in the trenches.
