Weekend Pantry Support, Sat. And Sunday. Here Is What They Are Out Of Now.

by Jon Katz

This is the weekend Pantry support list. You’ll see that the list of items they are out of has grown longer, as was expected.  We know we can’t do it all at once, but we can do it in bits and pieces, and that is working better than we expected.  Our motto is “Small Acts Of Great Kindness.” This weekend, check out the list if you can, and do what you can comfortably do—no pressure, no begging, no e-mails or texts. The Army of Good is an idea and a feeling; we don’t send people pleas for money, and we don’t keep records of who can do or does what. We all do what we can when we can; we are committed to empathy and compassion. So have a great weekend; I’ll check in over the weekend.

Picture Above: Faces of the Pantry: Barbara, at 90, says she is just getting started.

Sarah’s list of foods and care items that they are completely out of. Let’s do what we can:

_________

Pasta Roni Shells & White Cheddar Mix (Pack of 12), $10.24.

Betty Crocker Creamy Butter Mashed Potatoes, Jdd Water, $10.24.

Velveeta Shells and Cheese Mac and Cheese Dinner, 3 Boxes, Real Cheese, $6.72. BARGAIN.

Also, Dignity Items, empty shelves:

Poligrip Free Centure Adhesive Cream, (4 Pack), $18.48.

Colgate Cavity Protection, Fluoride Mint Toothpaste, (6 Pack), $10.78.

Those of us with children and elderly friends and relatives know how important these two items are. I call them dignity items; they are about how we feel, how we look, and how we stay healthy.

Mike talks to God a lot; he says Walmart is where he meets more people with his kind of faith. His church doesn’t always cut it. He is needed in this world, and in the Food Pantry for sure.

______

We are about so much more than money.

Thank you again and again for your wonderful donations and for doing good; you can also find them through the Cambridge Pantry Wish List. Sarah calls these foods “heat and eat” items; they are extremely popular at this time of year.

These are rough days for the Food Pantry, but we are keeping the best foods coming. That includes

Poligrip Free Centure Adhesive Cream,(4 Pack), $18.48.

Colgate Cavity Protection, Fluoride Mint Toothpaste, (6 Pack), $10.78.

They mean a lot to families and the elderly, and the Pantry can’t afford to buy any.

The Food Bank can no longer provide them with many items, and the shelves are frequently empty.

These are tough weeks for all Food Pantries, but our work with them has since become one of the most meaningful and hopeful experiences for the Army of Good and me. We are holding our own,  thanks mostly to good people. The Army of Good has been nothing less than heroic.

There are no simple days now and no easy ones.

So far, we have provided every item we have been asked to stock. This is a small but wonderful miracle, an assertion of good hearts and empathy. This is the true heart of Americans.

You bring hope and compassion to this Pantry, this community, and people across the country. There are not enough words to show gratitude for what the Army of Good is doing. The Pantry volunteers are amazing. The two groups are working beautifully together.

Sarah is doing a wonderful job keeping the Pantry serving its customers as best she can.

Check out the Amazon Pantry Wish List if you can. They need everything on it.
