Weekend Support: The Empty Shelf Items Of The Cambridge Food Pantry. On This Sunday, A Call For Help

by Jon Katz

For the first time in its history, the Cambridge Food Pantry has empty shelves in its main store and in storage. When we can, we are helping fill some of the most-wanted empty shelves. We can’t fill all the shelves, but we can send the most-wanted foods and care items.

I’ve noticed that Sunday is a day of caring for many people, perhaps because of going to churches, temples, and Mosques, all of which have supported the Food Pantry through the Army of Good.

It’s a good day for good. We’re doing a lot of good. We’re sticking with the Cambridge Food Pantry, a symbol of empathy and compassion for many.

Community food pantries face severe operational strain after the USDA cut or paused over $12 billion in federal funding for emergency food distribution programs (such as TEFAP and local purchasing programs. Large donors have also been forced to cut back.

Sarah’s list of foods and care items tells me that they are completely out of the food. Let’s do what we can:

_________

Pasta Roni Shells & White Cheddar Mix (Pack of 12), $10.24.

Betty Crocker Creamy Butter Mashed Potatoes, Just Add Water, $10.24.

Velveeta Shells and Cheese Mac and Cheese Dinner, 3 Boxes, Real Cheese, $6.72. BARGAIN.

Also, Dignity Items, empty shelves:

Poligrip Free Centure Adhesive Cream, (4 Pack), $18.48.

Colgate Cavity Protection, Fluoride Mint Toothpaste, (6 Pack), $10.78.

______

Those of us with children and elderly friends and relatives know how important these two items are. I call them dignity items; they are about how we feel, how we look, and how we stay healthy.

This is a special weekend Pantry Aid post for Saturday and Sunday.

You can access the Pantry Amazon Wish List anytime by clicking on any of the above links, or by clicking on the Pantry buttons at the bottom of every web post. Everything on the list is needed.

This is mostly a day off for me, a Meditation day, but I’m uncomfortable letting the Pantry alone for even a day. The Food Pantry is always on my mind. Thanks for your help.

________

See you tomorrow.
