Sunday Morning, Contemplation, Pantry Support, $O.99. And Giving Thanks

by Jon Katz

I’m taking today as a spiritual day: lots of thinking to do, time with Maria, some rest, and continuing the search for a peaceful and meaningful life amid change, division, and cruelty. Contemplation Day is about doing some good, and I don’t wish to forget the Cambridge Pantry even for a single day. People are hungry, people are needy.

When I ask for Cambridge Pantry support, I usually post photographs of their heroic volunteers, whom I greatly admire. But it is Sunday, my Contemplation Day, and I afortified and happy on my farm, where Maria, the animals, and my heart are. I’m sure I will take some flower photos later in the day; I am coming to see that is another way of doing good.

The photo above of Asher above seems like a good symbol of the farm right now. That’s what photography is all about for me.

For one cent, we can fill an empty shelf at the Cambridge Food Pantry.

I’m not typically religious, but I think of the weekend, Sunday and Saturday, as sacred days: giving days, times of worship,  reflection, times of giving and thinking of others. The tension and anger are exhausting at times. I start the morning by running through the things I have to be greatful for, starting with Maria, and giving thanks for the wonderful country that saved the lives of my family and me. Herere goer the weekend for  Sunday, the 20th of September, a few days before Fall. Sarah asked me to focus on Canned Corn:

Sarah reports that the Army of Good Stacked three more urgently needed items, including cereal, ravioli, spaghetti, etc. Sarah is finding amazing bargain prices. Like the Pantry, we are adapting to the new and very difficult reality. We won’t lose hope.

We are on a roll, stacking more than 15 items in recent weeks that the Food Bank and the Pantry could not afford. We are focusing on one or two at a time. Thank you; you are pouring out generosity like a geyser. Today it’s Canned Corn.
