Weekend Kindness for the Cambridge Pantry, hopefully for me and perhaps for the Army of Good. I think we all know by now that these are rough days for the Pantry. We are brightening a lot of days for the volunteers and the people who come for help. The items below will be available until Monday.
Somehow, I associate weekends with days of caring. I grew up as a Jew, and then a Quaker, and I was taught on both days to think of others on these days and offer my hand, as one Rabbi said. I think the Weekend Pantry Support is a great place to reach out.
The hardest items to stock are, of course, the most popular ones. Good, warm, healthy meals that are easy to store, cook, and clean up after. Few have room in their kitchens, nice tools, or nice stoves. By the end of today’s distribution, these two popular ones below will be completely gone from the shelves.
The items below used to come easily; the shelves were never empty. That’s no longer true, thanks to severe government cuts. There is much suffering. These are essential foods the families count on, and the children love. I hope we can stock them over the weekend—just two items. One is $4.29. A chance for us to feel good.
Last weekend we sent enough Canned Corn to last weeks. Thanks.

The two items requested this weekend, Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27:
Campbell’s Chicken Pot Pie Soup (Pack of 8), $17.20.
Spaghetti and Meatballs (Pack of 4), $4.29.
These are anchor foods for the Pantry families’ Hot Meals on Cold Days.

Above, Joan and Sally give up much of their weekend to stock the Pantry shelves with produce donated by our community. Below, Kim also spends much of my weekend stocking the Pantry shelves so the visitors are comfortable and can always keep their pride and dignity.
