Cambridge Pantry: Wow! We Are Stocked On Chicken Pot Pie Soup, Spaghetti And Meatballs, And Just Last Night, Paper Towels. Thank You, You Are Heroes In This World.

by Jon Katz

I can’t thank you enough for supporting the Cambridge Food Pantry. This goes beyond a single entity; it speaks to the true heart of America and Americans. You are doing more good than you might imagine, and thank you a dozen times. Perhaps we can help with these items, all at special prices.

Today’s request to help fill some inexpensive shelves:

Kraft BBQ Sauce, food for marinating and dipping, $1.98.

Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise, Sandwich Spread, 3 Count, $14.88.

Wish Bone Creamy Italian Salad Dressings, $3.80.

Today, the average price of diesel fuel in New York State is 6.137  cents a gallon. This is pressuring food pantries here across the country because the cost of transporting produce and other food items is skyrocketing, along with rising costs for food, gasoline, housing, and cars.

Every part of Food Pantries is facing rising costs for the things they need.

We are making a tremendous differenc; thank you.

In the Midwest, food pantries are working together, shortening hours, and cutting food. The Cambridge Food Pantry, with dedicated volunteers, a supportive community, and the Army of Good, is holding its ground.

We are grateful for the chance to help this wonderful and urgently needed cause.

Thank you, thank you; you saved what looked like a lot of empty shelves for the week yet again. Sometimes the Pantry needs only three or four items to fill its shelves for two or three days. We’re doing better than that most days, thanks.

A Feeding America report covering Eastern NY (including the Pantry’s area) puts need more starkly: 1 in 6 kids — over 98,000 children — are food insecure, and the reason that’s repeatedly cited is federal SNAP cuts, with the Regional Food Bank CEO estimating 44% of people currently facing hunger locally could lose SNAP eligibility.

Paychecks aren’t keeping up with the cost of things. More cuts were announced yesterday. More and bigger cuts are on the way.
