My Soft Politics: Shirts And Hats, No Hate Or Name Calling, Just Contempt And Hats

by Jon Katz

I was excited last night and this morning about the bravery shown by Jack Smith, the prosecutor, who was insulted and attacked by U.S. Republican Senators who didn’t seem to realize that most Americans care about other issues at the moment.

The lazy and astonishingly cruel Senator was living in another world, and the continuous effort to destroy Smith and throw him in jail for doing his duty blew up; the exchange exploded all over the Internet. They did not get what they wanted, not in the least.

Smith is something we have been waiting for for some time – a true Hero, a True Patriot, something that those senators have forgotten about, something we need.

I don’t believe in hate or in name-calling or weak people who hate anything different from them. I don’t know what he intended to do; Americans will tell us what they think about it in just a few weeks. Maria took this photo as I sat down to breakfast with what I call Soft Politics. She laughed and grabbed her camera. It gets the point across without being hateful or cruel.

God Bless Smith; I wish I could apologize to Smith for such a dishonest and vicious display by people who are supposed to protect us from people like them. He shames many of us with our silence and cruelty.

The hearing was a disgrace, a shame that will be cited and remembered for many years, including next month.

I bought the hat just last week to show my appreciation of Canada, our partner, neighbor, and long-time ally. I bought the cup a year or so ago as a present for Maria. I bought the T-shirt in support of James Talarico, who has been called “Freakarico” by his Republican opponents. Talarico immediately started selling T-shirts, laughing at the assault.

Talarico is single-handedly reminding the world what Jesus Chris was really about. In a different way, so was Jack Smith.

It is my way of speaking out against cruelty, lies, and rage. The blog is not a political site, but I hope I can be patriotic without hate.

  1. I saw the same debacle on many channels. Jack Smith is a true patriot…plus he stayed so calm when facing such vitriol, hatred, and just pure incompetence and stupidity. And the way Canadians are being vilified…they’re the best neighbors we could possibly have. I am related by Canadians by marriage. Several years ago they were very proud to have become naturalized citizens of this country….I haven’t asked them about that now. They did mention they didn’t have to give up their Canadian citizenship….Lucky them….they have a choice most of us don’t have. I just hope and pray we get the country back that my dad fought for in the second world war. I do love America and just want the hate and division to stop.

  2. Jack Smith is indeed a rarity of our time. He appears to be an honorable man doing the correct thing; following the law that so many in Washington care nothing about.
