I hope we can focus on Turkey Gravy today and a few other items for the Thanksgiving Giveaway. We’re more than halfway there, going one or two at a time.

I am in awe of the work Sarah and her volunteers do, and how heroic they are (I don’t have a better word) in finding the lowest prices for us, handling thousands of items, working long hourand preserving their customers’ dignity and morale. Sarah literally juggles the hundreds of things that come into the Pantry almost every day, knows where they go, makes sure they are safe and fresh, and listens to people in need with courtesy, appreciation, and empathy.
No volunteer is paid or asks for anything but the chance to do some good for people. She has countless things to keep track of and keeps track of them all. She also uses the Army of Good thoughtfully and effectively, always with courtesy and care. When this madness is over, she and her Pantry army will be removed. I am privileged to be working with her.

Daily Pantry News: Saint Sabina’s food Pantry in Chicago has marked two years of community service as rising demand for food assistance puts great pressure on its resources and the donations it needs to keep operating.
The church reopened the Pantry in September 2024, two weeks after Catholic Charities closed its food Pantry. Saint Sabina has said the Pantry now serves more than 200 people a day, an all-time high. Beyond food, the Pantry also offers counseling, medical services, and help with homelessness.
In Worthing, Ohio, the Pantry reported an 18% year-over-year rise in demand from July through September, forcing it to spend its own money on extra food just to keep shelves stocked.
