Dazzling Blue By Paul Simon. Maybe Love’s An Accident, Or Destiny Is True….

by Jon Katz

Dazzling Blue,

Song by Paul Simon

______

Truth or lie, the silence is revealing

An empty sky, a hidden mound of stone.

But the CAT scan’s eye sees what the heart’s concealing.

Nowadays, when everything is known,

Maybe love’s an accident, or destiny is true

But you and I were born beneath a star of dazzling blue,

Dazzling blue

Miles apart, though the miles can’t measure distance

Worlds apart on a rainy afternoon

But the road gets dirty and it offers no resistance

So turn your amp up and play your lonesome tune

Maybe love’s an accident, or destiny is true

But you and I were born beneath a star of dazzling blue,

Dazzling blue

Dazzling blue, roses red, fine white linen

To make a marriage bed

And we’ll build a wall that nothing can break through

And dream our dreams of dazzling blue

By Paul Simon. Maria and I plan on singing it together.

A Peaceful Day: How We Are Honoring Memorial Day. What Better For A Peaceable Kingdom?

by Jon Katz

Maria and I discussed how to honor Memorial Day and the people who sacrificed for our freedom (while our ambitious politicians try to take it away). Her idea, which I love, is to have a peaceful Day, perhaps the best way to acknowledge the horrors of war.

It’s a state of mind, really. We will be incredibly gentle to one another and the people we know – I’ll even be nice to the trolls, yentas, and meddlers polluting our technology and forever hoping to tell me and everybody else what to do.

It’s about simplicity, contemplation, love,  gratitude, and peacefulness. It’s about thinking of people who are needy and adrift. It’s about loving the refugees displaced by wars all over the world.

The best way for me to honor the dead is to honor peace and compassion.

That’s what we’ll try to do today.  People, not God, make wars. We can also make peace. Being gentle with one another, caring for one another, keeping animals and nature in our lives.

We’ll visit the animals, make some colorful art.

We’ll go for a walk, visit the donkeys, check on all the baby birds popping up in nests all over the farm, appreciate our love for one another, and capture the healing beauty of our flowers.

Poppies, which symbolize death and warfare and are associated with both, will be on my mind today and through the summer.

A peaceful day is a good idea for Memorial Day. It honors those who have died for us and reminds us that peace should never be forgotten or taken for granted. All those countless soldiers, innocent civilians, and children had a right to live.

So did the children slaughtered in their classrooms while we pray and pondered.

And there are the flowers, of course, symbols of peace and beauty. Color and light is the opposite of war.

Happy Valentine’s Day From Us At Bedlam Farm. This Is A Holiday The Country Could Use Right Now

by Jon Katz

I want to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day, it’s not a holiday we take very seriously here, but we are pleased to celebrate the idea of love.

Our country could use this holiday right now as we hunt one another down for ideological impurity.

Our dogs know of love and show it to us every day. I thank them.

Perhaps today, we can focus on loving each other for a few hours or a day. Maybe it will catch on, a new kind of healthy pandemic.

I’m heading to the Mansion for my Meditation Class and will return to try my new leg brace. I have high hopes for it.

My flowers and photos have shown me and taught me another way to love and share love. I thank them on Valentine’s Day.

When I think of love, I can’t help but think of Maria, who has loved me and taught me what love and joy mean. I love her dearly, and I thank her for existing and loving me back. I never feel as if I deserve it, but I am grateful for it every second of my life.

Thanks to my blue sky, who shows up every day for me, even when I can’t see it.

I call this little spider Harry. I used to kill spiders when I found them inside the house. I don’t anymore.

He’s welcome to hang around the bathroom and eat flies and mosquitoes.

I think of love as contagious; the more I do it, the more other people might do it.

Maria Found A Dirty Small Egg In The Roost. Zinnia Ate It

by Jon Katz

Maria was very happy to discover a small and dirty egg in the roost of the Imperious Hens. She came running up to show it to me. Then she put it down on the porch while she went to feed the animals. She was very happy to discover it.

She did not notice that Zinnia was paying close attention to the egg when I took this photo and when she put it down.

When she returned to collect it for breakfast, there was no sign of it. I can’t blame Zinnia; it was lying on the ground, fair game for any self-respected Lab.  Zinnia looked at me and wagged her tail. She was pleased too. I did notice a bit of shell hanging off one of her jowls.
