Today’s Farm Gossip will soon be a regular blog feature.
I was tied up in pantry work this morning and asked Maria to share some of the photos she took. We have been joking lately about how much we love to gossip about the small things in life, including the animals. I fantasize that they sometimes must gossip about us when we are not around.
I told Maria she should start a Bedlam Farm Gossip column; she always has great tales about the animals and their odd behaviors.
Today’s gossip began with Zip hiding under the wheelbarrow and doing one of his favorite things—popping out suddenly to scare the dogs or the hens. This is Zip’s mischievous side; he’s like Dennis the Menace, Cat Department, especially now that it’s warming up and the snow is gone. He’s a born mischief-maker.
He never harms the hens; he gets them to run and scatter as above. Zip has a bit of the demon inside of him.
The Treat Committee.
Maria took this photo to show what happens when I shower inside. I have no idea how serious the treat committee is when I’m inside the bathroom. When I come out, they change positions; Bud is upfront, and Fate and Zinnia hold back, wary of getting in trouble.
I can take a message, and when I come out, they all rush to the treat cabinet, and yes, they get a treat. Every time. They get excited when I’m taking a shower. Having a welcoming committee when I come out to start the day is fun.
I love this photo of Mericat and one of the hens. I call it our “Stoics.” Animals are often busy but know when to sit still and wait.
Thanks, Maria, for these photos. I’m rooting for you to start a Bedlam Farm Gossip Column. If you don’t, I will. We could both do it.
