Limited Edition Potholders

by Jon Katz

November 27, 2009 – Cloudy, gloomy, misty. November is here. Maria is mulling limited edition potholders for her fabricart business, made from discarded vintage dog and cat fabric. I don’t know which is more intense, the dog or cat people, but the cat people sure want  her cat potholders and have gobbled them up. So she is mulling how to make more, and be consistent with her standards of artistry. I think it’s a neat idea, and it’s fascinating seeing the potholder art evolve.

Saturday, 1 to 3 p.m., Gardenworks, Salem, N.Y. (518 854-3250). I’ll be signing books with Izzy and ASA Calendars, also available for viewing and purchase online. The ASA has a number of potholders signed by me and Corinna Aldrich, for those who prefer that.
Gardenworks is also selling many Xmas trees, gourmet treats and foods, cheese and muffins. Come out if you can. Mary Kellogg will be reading from her new book of poems, “Whistling Woman,” and Maria will be selling a small number of freshly made potholders.
At 7 p.m., December 17, we will all be at Red Fox books in Glens Falls. December 19, 1 p.m., at Northshire Books, Manchester, Vt.
