The Rolling Rose Tour

by Jon Katz
Rolling Rose tour. Something different
Rolling Rose tour. Something different

My novel, “Rose In A Storm” is coming out October 12, and the publicity planning is cranking up. We are trying something very different – a mixed-media interactive tour involving bookstores, events, media, photography, Facebook, dogs, the blog and Twitter. I will be posting my sked on the blog and on Facebook, taking photos and blogging as Maria and I and Izzy said halfway across the country and back through the Northeast.

Publishing, like everything else, is changing, and so are book tours. I’m excited about it.  Today I’m ordering an Ipad with a photo connector so I can take photos and upload them and put them up on the blog and Facebook as I tour. Very cool. It will be awesome to drive around with Maria and Izzy and my camera and talk to people about fiction, writing, photography dogs and Rose. All my favorite subjects. The tour begins October 12, the on-sale date at Northshire Books, Manchester, Vt., then goes to Washington, Virginia and then Clifton Park, N.Y. (October 16, 2 p.m.) Then we hop in the truck and head for Ohio, appearing in Dayton (Books and Co.) on October 18, 7 p.m.; Cincinnati, Joseph-Beth, 7 p.m. October 19, and Lexington, Joseph-Beth, 7 p.m., October 20. Haven’t firmed up the rest yet, but going from there to Boston and other spots in the Northeast.

I am very eager to try out this fusion of old and new technology, of meeting readers, going to bookstores and hammering social media. Let’s see what we can stir up.

Good morning from the cows on Bunker Hill Road

Staying away from flies
Staying away from flies

I appreciate cows. Their lives are elemental and accepting. This time of year, and in this season, they are beset by biting flies, so they seek out the shade and swish their tails a lot. They are always curious, always welcoming, always interested in photography. They inspire me to accept myself and my life and move forward. Also to be still sometimes, and let life come to me.
