First thing in the storm, dogs go out, then I yell “photoshoot” and they take up position. I love these dogs, and they all love the snow.

The donkeys are unfazed by Chris Barrett and his truck, which he manipulates like an impressario.

Chris Barrett is one of those good and invaluable people who know how the world works, are honest and thoughtful, and come when you need them to do things you cannot do. Men in trucks. I covet the flashing yellow light, but I’m not worthy. Chris says I can go buy one. I am grateful to him. He comes when you need him, makes life possible and loves long hours and hard work. He is also a pleasure to deal with.

It is wonderful to wake up, look out the window in a storm, and know that Chris is coming. He always comes.
