Humbling winter. Donkey trouble
For weeks, I’ve been heralding the end of winter, and the arrival of Spring, but I am being humbled again by a savage ice and snow storm hitting us tonight. The roads are impassable, and another foot of snow is on the way. Wow.
The donkeys are trapped up in the Pole Barn and the flood of water is so deep coming down the hill that they can’t get down to the feeder. We will have to haul some hay and water up to them in the morning. I think it’s March and it’s about time for all this to end. This morning, we saw grass and pasture peeping up through the snow, some of which was washed away by the heavy rains. We know the drill. Get the shovels out.
I feel badly for the dogs. They can barely get outside to walk.
Downpour
Last week, this could have been a blizzard. This week, it’s just a mess. Flooding everywhere. The only sane thing to do is get to a movie, which we are doing. “The King’s Speech.” The donkeys refused to go into the barn, so they will be up in the Pole Barn. Snow tonight.
Mystical Lenore
I came across this photo of Lenore during one of the winter’s many snowstorms. It stood out. There is a mystical side to this loving creature, as there is to all animals. And all dogs, when they aren’t being used by us and seen as piteous and abused or child-like.
