Fanny went first, then Lulu. This takes a good bit of patience and communication – and affection. It was good to have them back down again. I missed my video camera, but I don’t want to always do moving images. Sometimes it’s good to leave things to the imagination.
Lenore helped out, partly by waiting for some of the bread. Once we started down, it looked good but we still had the stream to navigate, and I didn’t think they would cross it.
Maria and Lenore went up to get the donkeys down, through huge drifts and across the growing steam flowing through the pasture as the big meltdown begins. If it gets too much bigger, the donkeys will be up there for a month. Maria has a powerful bond with the donkeys and they trust her. They came by slowly, step by step, Lulu first. The donkeys hate to be separated and we knew if Lulu came, Fanny would follow. But they were slipping deep into snow an ice and were skittish. It takes trust and calm. The danger was falling and injuring a leg. Maria brought bread.
