Poem: Why I Wake Early. Washing My Soul In A Sweet Cloth

by Jon Katz
Why I Wake Early
Why I Wake Early

To hear my messages, before the notifications.

To hear the quiet, before the noise.

To say good morning to Mother Earth,

before the roar of the machines.

To hear the peace, before the conflict.

To hear acceptance, before the arguments.

To wash my soul in the soft, sweet

cloth of life

To give the donkeys fresh grass,

And move the sheep to their pasture,

And give joyous Red some work,

And hear the morning birds,

And listen to the power of my own thoughts,

before the others begin to crash upon me,

like waves upon the shore.

See now, how I start my day,

in love, in peace, in acceptance.
