In The Rain, Lulu’s Crossing

Lulu’s Crossing

It is raining heavily at our farm, and Lulu’s Crossing is holding up well, the water flowing swiftly and easily through the new tube, the animals went out to the pasture on their own early this morning and the donkeys are having a riotous time eating shrubs, leaves and the tall grass. Zelda and the sheep followed them out – you can see in this photo Zelda and Lulu both spotted me immediately with my telephoto lens. Animals take their own time – they checked the pasture out with us, and now went on their own.

Simon led the donkeys on a fence tour, he checked every inch of the fenceline, he knows the boundaries, sniffed the bones of a dead deer.

To Lulu’s Crossing: Healing Ourselves

by Jon Katz
Healing Ourselves
Healing Ourselves

Why should we be merciful to animals? For us, not only them. For our own psyches and souls. I am good to animals for many reasons, one is that it heals me, makes me whole, teaches me how to be a human. We are a broken people, fearful, angry, judgmental, envious, fighting to keep from living hollow lives, disconnected from nature. We are a beautiful people, loving, generous, kind and hopeful and eager to reconnect with the natural world, and every time we show compassion and care to an animal, we become better, stronger, more spiritual, our hearts grow, our spirits shine. We nourish ourselves and bring out the better spirits in us.

We become more human. We learn how to love. We heal our broken souls. We learn the joy and wonder of connection.
