New Year’s Eve was full of all kinds of messages, the potpourri of life. The fiber optic cable in this area went out around ll a.m., shutting down the blog, our phone and TV, I took it as a message to read and work on my Simon book. There were four or five cable trucks outside of the farmhouse for most of the day, I felt for those men going up to work on poles in those buckets in bitter cold.  We were invited to some friends for a small and quiet New Year’s Eve gathering, conversation, card-reading, good food.

I made two pizzas, both of which I was happy with. One was a white clam pizza with chopped clams, pesto, tomato, pine nuts, oregano, spinach,  garlic on goat cheese, I have to say it was pretty fine. The second was chicken sausage over Ricotta cheese, marinara sauce, mushrooms and pine nuts. I bake the crust for 10 minutes at 500 degrees (sprinkle corn meal and flour in the pan to keep it from sticking). Our friend is a skilled card reader, she told me 2014 was about gathering the strength to make my own decisions about my work and my future, I found it precise and relevant.

We have some weather news to pay attention to, Friday and Saturday the high is expected to be around 1 degree, the low -16, important to have warm fresh water and to grain the animals. We’ll put some old hay down for them. There’s a possible snowstorm on Thursday through Friday, the ground is covered with ice from a rain storm Monday evening and then a deep freeze. The cats are going to spend a few days inside looks like, me too, except for barn chores and animal care. Got to fill a bunch of buckets with water and leave them inside, the outdoor faucet will certainly freeze in that kind of cold.
