Keerie, Marisa and Tanya are three remarkable women who run the kitchen and counter at the Round House Cafe, Maria told them about her new “My Brain Is Bad” potholder series – an instant and unexpected hit online – and so being Maria, she decided to make one for them and give it to them, which we did this morning.

The Round House women were happy to get their potholder, which they will share.

These three are good friends, it is beautiful to see how well they work with one another, how much they support each other, how much they contribute to the spirit of this mystical cafe in a small town in upstate New York. When people love working in a place, it is great to be in that place, it makes such a difference. They work so hard, never with any complaint.  I think it  ought to be a TV series, “At The Round  House Cafe,” so much happens there. They loved the “My Brain Is Bad” idea, some people are just drawn to the notion. Maria’s brain may be bad, but she does good work and cranks out great stuff.

Zelda is not interested in people too much, but every morning she comes out to meet Maria when we do the chores, she looks up into her face, perhaps looking for food, yet also something else, there is something else passing between them. Maria is especially concerned about Zelda, who is due to give birth any moment, I imagine Zelda, like most animals can sense this feeling of concern, this emotion.
