Open House: Ed’s Turtle

This is Ed Gulley’s first official art show and he is, like all artists, trying to figure out how prices. We all agreed he should charge $65 for his new small turtle, an evolution for him in his work as a sculptor of farm parts.  Ed reminds us that there is an artist waiting to emerge in many of us, including a tough dairy farmer who works hard every day of his life.

The turtle is made out of a shovel, some horseshoes and a wrench or two. I think it is one of his most original works. If nobody else buys it, I might.

Open House is Saturday and Sunday, 11 to 4. This one feels very good to me. Artists have been arriving all day yesterday and today with batiks, tote bags, landscapes, jewelry, quilts, potholders, hanging pieces. Very cool. The them of the weekend is “The Art Of Rural Life,” and Ed personifies it so beautifully.
