This morning, Maria brought a piece of bread out for Lulu and Fanny, good stuff from the Round House Bakery. The donkeys are sweet and gentle about taking food, it is a way of talking to them sometimes, and they love pieces of bread, an occasional treat for them. Fanny is at the bottom of the photo, Lulu at the top.

Running To The Pasture
A different perspective on the animals, Chloe and the sheep and Fate running to the pasture to graze in the hot afternoon sun. An IR Photo.
Flies, Flies
I used the IR camera to try and pick up the flies swarming all over Chloe this afternoon in the pasture, I thought (correctly) they would show up against the lighter background. Flies are part of a horses existence, we put a mask on Chloe and also are giving her a natural hormone that passes through her body and into the manure and kills the fly larvae. The number of flies is already down a bit. It think it’s harder for me to to watch than for her to deal with, she keeps right on grazing.
Next year, we will begin the hormones earlier, around May and that should help.
The Daily Kiss
I came to give Chloe her daily bath, but now she insists on a kiss before I come in. Maria says she has my number. That could be so.
From Maria, The Rainforest Potholders
From the Schoolhouse Studio, the Rainbow Potholder series, 15 colorful potholders that evoke life in the tropical forests. They are quite beautiful, I love watching the evolution of the humble potholder into a small and inexpensive piece of art. Maria has broken some new ground, she is also getting serious about her tote-bags, also inexpensive. She has found a way to make simple things beautiful and accessible to everyone. The potholders will go on sale tonight or tomorrow, they sell for $15 plus shipping. These, I predict, will fly right out of here.
