The Oscar Trubeck Trio, At The Mansion

by Jon Katz
The Oscar Trubeck Trio

The Oscar Trubeck Trio, whose members live in and around my town, came in to play for the Mansion Valentine’s Day Party. They were quite wonderful. I’m putting up some more photos, this may be the most satisfying and moving thing the blog has ever been involved with, and I am so grateful for the hard work, imagination, love and creativity so many of you have shared with the Mansion Residents.

As they approach the end of their lives, you  have brought so much light and love to them, they speak about you all the time. There were even letters from Germany and England and boxes of chocolates and fresh-baked cookies, flowers, and the very person letters, which are read and re-read and share for days even weeks. I’m up for Easter if you are. This is just the most wonderful thing, my heart just soared when I walked in there today.

Several of the residents are reading my blog, and they thought I sounded sad about Maria’s trip. I suppose I was sad when she left but I am not sad today. Tomorrow i am having dinner at the Mansion with the residents there, they are worried about my eating. Red is invited as well.

Second Video: Love Fest At The Mansion – See What You Did

by Jon Katz
See What You Did

My jaw dropped when I came into the Mansion with Red and saw all the food, packages, gifts and letters you good people sent to the Mansion residents, they were joyous, overwhelmed and amazed. Holidays, the staff says, can often be lonely, but not this one.

I loved watching them read the letters, quote from them, share them.

I took a second video, the sound and feeling was so special, this is one of the happiest posts I have ever published, and I am so grateful to those of you who helped bring so much light and love into the Mansion on Valentine’s Day. They love to get your messages (11 S. Union Street, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816). I’m game for Easter if you are.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen generosity so spontaneous, creative and meaningful. People are so good given the chance. My new motto; don’t argue, do good. More photos to come. I wish I had the words to capture what this means to people, often pushed to the edge of life and left behind. More than anything, they need to know they are loved and cared for. Now they know.

Valentine’s Day Party At The Mansion: More than 1,000 Letters And Gifts!

by Jon Katz

The Valentine’s Day party at the Mansion this afternoon was a stunning celebration, unlike any the residents had ever seen in all of their lives – I heard that over and over again. The Mansion staff was passing out letters, cards, candies, cookies, pinwheels, puzzles, games, cakes, photographs and too many things too list.

The staff was happy and shocked, they were passing out letters and gifts for nearly two hours, I carried some candy trays around.

“Some of these people haven’t gotten five letters in years,” a staffer told me, “they are all getting at lealst 10 and 15 today, plus bags filled with fun things.”

The happiness and excitement was amazing to see, you are an Army Of Good and today was a mighty victory. Everyone got a bit red bag filled with stuff, they couldn’t wait to open it, share it and show it with one another. What a gift you have given these people. I wanted to put up this video and also some photos.

The video captured the feel of it, and I loved the Oscar Stroubeck Trio. I’m thinking about Easter.

Lunch With George

by Jon Katz
Lunch With George

I had lunch with George Forss at the Round House Cafe yesterday, it was great to see him and have some time with him. He is busy – working on books about aliens, Godforce, staying young and his mysterious approach to health. At various times, he has been diagnosed with diabetes, congestive heart failure, and other diseases, they all appeared to have vanished. Some of this George attributes to the aliens, some of it to other mystical chants and happenings.

George is a work of nature. One of the world’s premiere urban landscape photographers, he keeps writing and taking pictures. He publishes books about his mother, how own photographer, and his very mystical view of life and the world. He is a precious friend and a sweet soul. Also a genius It was a pleasure to talk to him and listen to him. He said that he and Donna are chanting for Maria as she makes her way tonight from Dubai to India.

George has many powers, if he chants for something it happens. The one exception, he says, is Donald Trump. He didn’t chant for him, he said, but he says Trump is a fierce warrior and must be taken seriously.

Sunrise Over The Apple Tree

by Jon Katz
Sunrise Over The Apple Tree

Every morning, I try to be outside when the sun comes over the hill, I love the old and durable apple tree out in the pasture – I can’t imagine how it has survived – and I love the sight of the sun rising. This morning, I was inthe right place at the right time, that doesn’t happen all that often.
