Into The Light

by Jon Katz
Into The Light

I have good luck with the sunrise, I think arrogantly sometimes that the sun is waiting for me to come out to say good morning to me, but that is narcissistic. This is my first face-to-face sunrise in a couple of days, I was sick for a day and stayed inside. It was zero this morning when I came out, but the dogs didn’t seem to mind.

So far, Gus doesn’t seem to notice the cold, and it was sure noticeable today. We have scheduled the sleigh ride at the Mansion for noon, along with blankets and scarves and hot chocolate. The residents are pretty psyched, and hopefully, the sun will warm things up a bit.

I am into Christmas this year, figuring out how to do it.

Three Bears For The Mansion

by Jon Katz
Bears For The Mansion

I got a magical box from Washington State this week, Carolyn Smith of Auburn told me it was coming to my P.O. Box and I was looking for it.

“Hi, Jon” she wrote, “when you said some of the Mansion residents like stuffed animals I decided that these three bears should have a new home. They are basically brand new as they were always in a cupboard to protect them from dust – time they were enjoyed and I thought you would know who mike like them.”

I do Carolyn, I told the Mansion staff last night about these beautiful bears and we all came up with several people who would dearly love to have a stuffed bear to share their nights with.

Carolyn has a wonderful grasp of Christmas, I see, and people like her make me feel so grateful to be alive and so hopeful for the future of the world.

Early this afternoon, we’re going on a Sleigh Ride at the Mansion (thanks, Army Of Good) and I’ll bring these bears along with me, and make sure they each get a good home. I  know exactly where they ought to go, I think.

These bears are different, they have distinct personalities but also evoke the connection people have with animals. The Mansion residents can’ have the real things, these are almost as good, they will be much loved.

Thanks, Carolyn and Merry Christmas to you.
