The Army Of Good. Going On Sale. Final Design. Keeping Good Alive

by Jon Katz
Final Design

Thanks so much for your guidance and feedback about the Army Of Good Bumper Stickers. I’ve chosen the design. The bumper stickers will cost $10 apiece.

I’ve listened to your preferences and re-instated the mountains. Sara simplified the sun and chose the strong font across the middle. I am learning there is a difference between advice that is sought and advice that is not. So thanks for your help, it was helpful. I am very happy with this design, it is simple, beautiful and affirming, as is the Army Of Good itself.

I wanted to cut them out, but people felt the sun rising above the mountains is an uplifting image.

Many people liked the stained glass design and it was pretty, but it seemed off the mark to me. Sara Kelly eliminated the raised font and removed the rays behind the sun. She read all of the comments and replies and appreciated them. Sara is a great pleasure to work with, she is open, creative and responsive.

She also respected my wishes for simplicity, I’m a Steve Jobs admirer.

So this is simple, strong, and affirming. I love the idea of the bumper sticker, the evolution of the Army Of Good is one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life, and I think this can make it more tangible and real to people. We are an idea that ought to be acknowledged and shared, but few of us have or will ever actually meet  each other.

I am asked every day who these good people are, and the truth is, I don’t really know. I just know they keep good alive.

I see this as a fund-raising tool as well as a personal symbol. We will deduct the costs, which are significant, the rest will go to help the people we are supporting, and for the small acts of great kindness we carry out every day.

I asked Sara to create a design for some Tote Bags down the road – just a few with this logo and the phrase:
“Small Acts Of Great Kindness.”

The bumper sticker can be pre-ordered today, details below. They will cost $10 each.

I will accept pre-orders now, but only by mail. When the bumper stickers are printed, you will be able to order them on Maria’s etsy page. Just those two places, no e-mail or Paypal orders can be accepted.

Sorry, just too much activity there,I would drown in it. If you wish to pre-order, you can send cash or a check for $10 to me, Jon Katz, c/o P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. It will take a week or so for the stickers to be printed. I’m afraid I can’t be responsible for orders sent any way other than the P.O. Box right now.

Please, no e-mail or Paypal orders, just the P.O. Box, and then, Etsy in a week or so.

The bumper stickers are  3″ by 10 ” laminated. They will be of good quality from a printer in Glens Falls, N.Y. known for their good work. Once they go out all over the country – the early response is strong – I’d love to post photos on the blog. The AOG has members in just about every state in the U.S, I’m not sure about South Dakota.

it will cost $556.44 to print the first 500, we’re still getting estimates for the new and larger envelopes needed to ship them, and there will be shipping costs as well. In addition, we will be devoting considerable amounts of time to bookkeeping, labeling and envelope-stuffing. I might need to hire some part-time help for that if the volume is high.

So I’ll start with 500 and we’ll see what happens.

My wish is that there be money left over from each sticker to go to the Gus Fund, and to help the Mansion residents and refugees and immigrants.  Our mission is to commit small acts of great kindness, and to do good rather than argue about what good is.

That is, of course, the point of all this, as well as to connect one another to this amazing community, and to spread the word:  keep good alive.

To order the bumper stickers, send cash or check to me,  Jon Katz, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. Please mark the check or envelope “Bumper Stickers.” Thanks. When they are printed, they will also be on sale on Maria’s Etsy page, it will take a week or so. I’m sorry but I can’t be responsible for any orders sent by e-mail or Paypal, too confusing.

Babies In Spring. Stewardship of The Earth

by Jon Katz
Babies In Spring

The animals around us share our love of Spring. A goose and her mate come her every year and build a nest in the marsh behind the pasture, the goslings are hatching, there are baby rabbits, raccoons, mice, songbirds, and calves. This was was born just a few hours before I took this photograph. Welcome to Spring. I appreciate being so close to the natural world. I am mindful of our stewardship of the earth.
