In our country, we toss old things away, or bulldoze them. Soon, there will be no old barns like this, whispering stories from the past.

Intimations of Spring
The Dogs of Bedlam Farm are ready for the day. Lenore is Recreation Chair, Rose is organizing the work chores, Izzy is trying to get the photo on his good side, and Frieda is considering Mayhem, often in the form of a cat or other animal appearing in her line of sight.
Off to Brooklyn

Off to Brooklyn for Em’s book party. Be back tomorrow first thing.
Now, Cat Potholders
Every time I go into Maria’s studio I find something new and yesterday it was a Man Bag and also a bunch of cat fabric Maria is using in her potholders. These potholders are going to be fun. Watch out. The new Bedlam Farm Spring notecards are done – chickens, eggs, flowers. They will soon be up on the Redux website and will be on sale by this weekend.
Here comes a baseball book
Today is a special day for me, and more importantly, for my daughter. It’s publication say for her new book,
“90 per cent of the game is half mental,” an ironic and loving outsider’s look at baseball and the struggles involved in breaking into New York. I am not unbiased about Emma, but she has a funny, knowing, and razor-sharp way of looking at things. Her first chapter, which focuses largely on her crazy father, is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Yes, it’s true that I took her to see Terminator II when she was only eight, and I did notice her eyes were closed for most of the movie. Who knows what I was thinking?
But she did grow up to love movies. Anyway, the baseball stuff is great and so is the sometimes poignant look at life in New York City these days for people who want to break in. Tonight I’m going with Maria to Brooklyn for Emma’s book party. Then I will get drunk somewhere.
On March 26, Emma and I will appear together at the Red Fox Bookstore in Glens Falls, N.Y. to talk about writing and read from our respective books. That will be a hoot. Em thinks it will be fascinating to see how the dog people and the baseball people mesh. Often, I have found, they are the same thing. I will be offering a sneak preview of my new novel, “Rose In A Storm,” out in October. Izzy will be doing the greeting.
Em’s book is onsale everywhere, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com.
