Windowsill Gallery: Off To The Emerald City

There is only Zelda to go and our lambing will be done. We are off to New York City, leaving the farm in the capable hands of Deb Foster and our friends and neighbors. I am grateful Maria is coming, she needs to get away. Me too. I am going in search of peace, prayer, spiritual understanding, resolution. And good Thai food. I hope to see my daughter on the eve of her appoint to a new job as Senior Editor at Sports Illustrated. I am quite proud of her.

This afternoon, I’ll walk with an Indian chief and come to an understanding about the horses and their messages to me and to the world. Monday I’m meeting with my new editor to plot this new chapter in my writing career. Exciting times, crisis and mystery around every corner.

Mother And Lamb. Portrait Of Life

by Jon Katz
Portrait Of Life
Portrait Of Life

Many people are certain about the decisions they make with animals, I am not. Each one is different, complex. Many times this week I felt I was causing Ma to suffer, she was near death several times. We decided to press on, give life a better chance, and it was, in this case, a good decision. It could so easily have been a different one. A wonderful week for me full of life, meaning and challenge – this is why I am here, this is the life I chose.

Maria is struggling with the emotions of the week, the tension and the suffering she saw. It was not cute, not sweet, it was ugly and smelly and painful. This morning, it was joyous. It is life. I am grateful for it.

Ma’s Lambs. Making A Joyful Noise

by Jon Katz
Making A Joyful Noise
Making A Joyful Noise

Ma’s lambs are alive and well and making a joyful noise unto the world. This was a week of amazing experiences, rich in life, decisions, meaning and lessons. Ma and her lambs have made a powerful statement to me and Maria and the world about the nature and meaning of life. She is a good mother, her lambs are in good hands. Maria is a bit in shock after her first lambing experiences, she says she’s a bit delrious, she is. Good to be going to New York.
