This is Red’s look when he thinks he’s going to go to work, his eyes widen, his ears go up, he gives me his earnest and pleading stare. It often works.

The Winter Meadow
I’m savoring the winter meadow, it is already beginning to fade. It manages to show grace and beauty, even through the harsh and cold winter.
Just After Christmas
Just after Christmas, a friend came by to say she had lost a mitten while visiting us, had we found it? We did not. It began snowing soon after that, snow followed by frigid arctic air. This morning, I found the glove, it was out by the car in the driveway, the temperature is creeping up into the 40’s and some of the snow has begun to melt, revealing layers of thick ice and dirt. I feel like an archeologist uncovering an ancient civilization, artifacts popping up out of the ground.
I wonder if she still wants the glove.
No Left Turn
Red and Liam met at the path in front of the hay feeder, with Manure Mountain as a backdrop. Liam wanted to turn left, but that road was closed to traffic. Liam was more circumspect than yesterday, when he got nipped. I see that Red has many admirers, but Liam has many supporters, they are rooting for him, some secretly. I am a fan of Liam’s also, he is plucky without being belligerent or hurtful. Two strong wills. Red gave Liam the full eye, and Liam turned away and went back to the feeder.
