Animals always surprise me, and teach me things. Bartleby and Lulu have struck a touching friendship. She watches over him, and he nuzzles with her and sleeps in the shade of her body. I have seen a number of these animal friendships – my rooster Winston and Minnie the Barn Cat (and Winston and Orson), Rose and Mother, Lenore and Brutus the ram. These two above are quite attached to one another, and Bartleby follows Lulu around sometimes when he is not with his mother.
