The Library Potholders

The Library Potholders

When Maria and I went on the Library Tour earlier this year, she decided to do some sketches of the libraries and turn them into potholder/art. She did some lovely sketches – this one of the Cobbleskill Librarys Children’s Room in Cobbleskill, N.Y. It was an experession of her emerging and creative art, and also, I think, a way to keep her own creative identify in the midst of a tour about me and my books. She managed that in the strong, clear and creative way I have come to know and love from her. And the results are already quite beautiful and imaginative, a commemoration not only of our love and support for libraries, but for the amazing identity each individual library has. I love these potholders and as she makes them, she is offering them for sale. I think this one is already sold.

And I also love her, and the inspiring way in which she has fought for her identify and keeps it alive and creative, and loving at the same time. I married good., as my grandmother urged me to do.
