Photos of Simon by Jessica Barrett
I was touched by this photo, as this was how Simon looked when he came to the farm. Just a week, but a long time. I pity the farmer as much as Simon, perhaps more. Simon was not aware of being mistreated, something he felt but almost surely could not intellectualize. The farmer is a human being with a conscience and a sense of some self-awareness. And he has to live with himself, almost certainly a broken and diminished soul. If there is a God, and he created all life to be sacred, then there will be a reckoning.
This afternoon, I will post photos of Simon’s crippled hooves and legs. Hard to see, but again, not gruesome. But I wanted to give some warning.
