The galleys for “Going Home: Finding Peace When Pets Die” came today, and that is always an exciting moment for a writer. I’m off to New York City for a day of meetings next week at Random House to plan the publicity and marketing for the book.

This book, coming out September 27, is an important book for me. It is a sympathetic, hopefully helpful book aimed at assisting people and their families when pets die. Grieving for animals has become more severe in recent years as pets move to the center of our emotional lives.I talked to a lot of people for this book and offer specific examples, ideas and suggestions for people who are dealing with the particular kind of grief that comes with losing a beloved pet. I will be touring around the country, but not sure where. I’m going to sit down for a bit and read through it. I am very pleased to have written this book and hope it will be helpful to the many people who suffer grieving the loss of an animal they love. A whole bunch of my photographs are in there as well.
