Whispering to me. Be Brave. See the light, cont.

by Jon Katz
See the light. Be Brave

When I was in a bad place, and I walked in the woods, I often believed God was whispering to me. Strange, how quickly we turn to God when we are in trouble. I would look for the light on the leaves, and close my eyes and I would hear the message. Be Brave.

Be Brave when you are afraid, and you want to take a chance.

Be Brave when people tell you that you need to be afraid. Of your body. Of the weather. Of money. Of the economy.

Be Brave when people tell you how to live your life. That you are too young. Or too old. Or too strange.

Be Brave when people tell you that you don’t deserve to tell your story. Or that noone wants to hear it.

Be Brave when people tell you that you need tests. Or pills. Or proceedures. Be brave when they frighten you about your life.

Be Brave when people tell you that you are crazy. Or wrong. Or not worthy of your dreams.

Be Brave when people tellĀ  you that you can’t find love. That it’s too hard. That there aren’t enough men. Or women.

Be Brave when people tell you that Snow White is just a cartoon fairy. And that dreams can’t come true.

That’s what the leaves have whispered to me. Be Brave. And I listened.
